The iPhone 15 is the least intuitive generation in the whole lineup — under one name sit two very different AI outcomes.

The price gap is moderate. The capability gap is not.

If you're buying an iPhone 15 for the AI, you need the Pro. The standard and Plus models join the iPhone 13 and 14: outside the lineup entirely.
What changed in 2026: iOS 27 raised the bar for the most advanced on-device model, and even the iPhone 15 Pro moved down a tier. It keeps standard Apple Intelligence features, but not the heaviest ones, reserved for iPhone 17 Pro and later.
French specifics: Apple Intelligence is available in Europe, but the new Siri AI is absent from iPhone and iPad in the EU under the Digital Markets Act, with no announced date. Mac and Vision Pro only. So an iPhone 15 Pro or 16 bought in France gives you Apple Intelligence — but not Siri AI on mobile.

Two things to note: the 15 Pro (6.1") has only a 3x telephoto — 5x is Pro Max exclusive. And the standard models gain the 48 MP sensor and Dynamic Island, but not titanium, the Action button or Wi-Fi 6E.
The USB-C catch
The iPhone 15 moved from Lightning to USB-C — but the standard models are USB 2.0 (480 Mbps), the same speed as Lightning.
Only the 15 Pro / Pro Max are USB 3 (10 Gbps), and only with a separately bought USB 3 cable (the bundled one is USB 2.0).
What the standard models gain is connector universality, not speed. It's the most common misunderstanding about this generation.
Battery: the 15 Pro's weak spot
The iPhone 15 Pro's battery is tight for an A17 Pro and a 120 Hz display. Reviewers flagged it at launch.
Apple rates the 15 line for 1,000 cycles to 80 % (500 for earlier generations). Real-world spread is wide: some report 87 % at around 370 cycles, others 84 % near 713 cycles (about three years).
Refurbished buying advice: only worth it if battery health is above 90 % with a low cycle count. Between 80 and 85 %, factor in a replacement.

For reference: at launch in France, the iPhone 15 was €969, the 15 Plus €1,119, the 15 Pro €1,229 and the 15 Pro Max €1,479 (256 GB). Prices had come down €50–150 versus the iPhone 14 generation.
Known issues
Overheating (15 Pro / Pro Max) — the most-reported issue at the 2023 launch, with readings of 42–48 °C. Apple addressed it in iOS 17.0.3.
Titanium discolouration — documented by Apple itself: skin oils can temporarily change the frame colour, and it wipes off with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Normal behaviour, no impact on value.
OLED retention — some users report ghosting of the keyboard or home screen. Check on grey or white backgrounds at low brightness.
Wireless charging and NFC — cases of NFC chip failure after charging on a BMW pad were confirmed by Apple. Test Apple Pay when buying.
European version and warranty
European models use 1 nano-SIM + 1 eSIM. In France, buying from a professional gives you a 2-year legal guarantee of conformity, on top of the manufacturer warranty.
Reminder: the Roadside Assistance via satellite added with the 15 range isn't offered in France, which covers only Emergency SOS via satellite. iPhones bought in Hong Kong, mainland China or Russia have no satellite features at all.

A positioning note on the 15 / 15 Plus: more expensive than the 13 and 14, still without Apple Intelligence. If AI is your deciding factor, they can't answer it. Their value lies in Dynamic Island, the 48 MP sensor and USB-C.
